RACE READY PROGRAM | 8-12 YEARS

The Race Ready Program at Kronos Triathlon Club is designed for youth athletes ages 8-12 who are ready to move beyond introductory multi-sport play and prepare for their first triathlon race experience.

This program focuses on building confidence, safety, and technical skills across swimming, cycling, running, and transitions, while guiding athletes toward participation in the Calgary Kids of Steel Triathlon on June 14, 2026. Race-day coaching support is included.

Whether your athlete is brand new to triathlon or looking for structured guidance before their first race, Race Ready provides expert coaching in a fun, supportive, and age-appropriate environment.

WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR

  • Youth athletes ages 8-12

  • Athletes ready to prepare for their first triathlon

  • Kids who enjoy swimming, biking, running, and being active

  • Athletes planning to race at Calgary Kids of Steel

    Note: Athletes ages 6–9 should register for the Swim Bike Play program.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Athletes will receive age-appropriate coaching in each discipline, with a focus on safety, skill development, and enjoyment:

  • Swim: A focused 1-hour session to prepare for the race-day swim

  • Bike: Weekly sessions developing confidence, safety, and bike-handling skills

  • Run: Engaging run drills and games to build endurance and joy in movement

  • Transitions: Dryland practice teaching athletes how to confidently navigate triathlon transitions (swim-to-bike and bike-to-run), including mount/dismount skill

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN REGISTRATION

  • Entry into the 2026 Calgary Kids of Steel Triathlon (June 14, 2026)

  • Race-day coaching support

  • Six dryland training weekends focused on bike, run, and transitions

  • Race-specific swim sessions

  • Course familiarization session prior to race day

PREREQUISITES

  • General: Enthusiasm to learn and try new activities

  • Triathlon Alberta Membership: As a Triathlon Sanctioned Club, all participants of the program MUST have a 2026 Triathlon Alberta membership (can be purchased when registering for the program). A youth membership covers your athlete for all Triathlon Alberta events and programs for the entire year!

  • Gear Required:

    • Swimsuit, goggles, swim cap

    • Bicycle in good working condition

    • Certified bike helmet

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

  • Bike, Run & Transitions: Saturdays, 2:00-4:00 PM @ North Glenmore Park Lot B

  • Swim Session: Sunday, 5:00–6:00 PM @ MNP Community & Sport Centre

  • Course Familiarization: Saturday, June 13 – 3:00–4:00 PM @ Brookfield YMCA

  • Race Day: Sunday, June 14 – Calgary Kids of Steel @ Brookfield YMCA (Time TBD; athlete heat times released closer to the event)
